Reading is the privilege of uninterrupted communication. It allows us to hear another person’s thoughts without being hindered by time, place, status, or appearance. A person waits in a boat on a lake of thoughts, the depth of which is unknown. It has neither waves like the sea nor the ability to swim like a fish, and it has neither oars nor a motor. Only another thought can end this troublesome waiting. Within the Hand in Hand Disabled Persons Platform, we encourage each other to read by providing some with oars and others with boats, adding a bit of movement to our stagnant and boring thought lake.

We aim to read and finish one book every month. The books we have planned include “Sırça Köşk” by Sabahattin Ali, “The Child Within Us” by Doğan Cüceloğlu, “The Five Love Languages” by Gary Chapman, and this month’s read “To Kill a Mockingbird” by Harper Lee. Upcoming books are “In the Land of White Lilies” by Gregory Petrov and “The Education of Willpower” by Jules Payot. The first three books have been read and discussed as planned. This pattern will continue.

We have chosen books from various genres that everyone will enjoy and that are also available as audiobooks accessible to visually impaired individuals. Since December, we have been discussing these books over Zoom. Our book club meetings are held in a democratic and sincere atmosphere. We invite all book lovers to join our book club, hoping that future meetings will continue in the same vein.

You can watch the recordings of our meetings on the following links:

These events are the result of the efforts of Hand in Hand Disabled Persons Platform volunteers. On behalf of my friends, I would like to thank everyone who listens to and participates in these events.
